Price is based on Sydney metro based delivery.

Group booking payment terms are based on agreement between the client and Intrinsic Safety Training.

Initial Course:

7 hours face to face training and assessment.

Refresher Course:

7 hours face to face training and assessment.

Important information regarding course durations:

Course durations are reflective of group sizes between 4 and 15 students. 

If there are less students in a group course duration may be reduced by a maximum of 10%. 

Therefore, if a class size exceeds 15 students it may  be necessary to increase course duration.

What are you issued upon completion?

Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the following statement of attainment:

  • MSMWHS217 Gas Test Atmospheres

Who issues the certificate?

Training and assessment is delivered on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd (RTO 90909), therefore they will issue the statement of attainment for this course.

How often should the training be done?

The industry recommendation is that workers conduct this course at least every 2 years.

The course includes the following topics:

  • Work permit systems

  • Safety, hazards and hazard control

  • Common atmospheric hazards and contaminants

  • Explosive range, upper and lower explosive limits

  • Exposure standards, time-weighted average, short term exposure limits, peak limitation values

  • Examination of toxic effect

  • Conditions under which atmospheres become hazardous

  • Units of measurement used to express concentration of atmospheric contaminants

  • Preparing for and testing in a confined space or other potentially unsafe environment

  • Using and maintaining testing and monitoring equipment

  • Interpreting readings and taking required action

  • Following communication and reporting procedures

Physical Requirements

Students will have to carry out various physical practical exercises. Therefore students should be capable of conducting the following activities:

  • Correctly fitting a harness
  • Climbing into and through confined space environments
  • Being lowered and raised on a pulley system in a confined space environment
  • Performing manual tasks in a confined space environment
Assessment Components

Both practical (tasks and scenarios) and written theory assessments will be conducted during face to face training sessions.

The Training Package for this unit requires a student to be physically able to do a gas test in a range of atmospheres.

It is important to note that there are physical standards which relate to the level of performance required when undertaking accredited training. There can be no exceptions to these Australian Government requirements that are clearly written into the Training Package.

Therefore, students who are unable to satisfy the physical requirements of the course cannot be deemed competent or issued with a statement of attainment, even if the qualification is a necessary part of their employment conditions.

Students undertaking this course will have to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

Language, Literacy and Numeracy
  • Sufficient English language, literacy, numeracy and visual interpretation skills to successfully complete this course

Personal Safety
  • Personal safety equipment must be provided by/for the student and worn during training

Venue Information/Catering

Students attending courses at our venues must provide:

  • Lunch (cafes operate within or close to all of our training venues)

  • Appropriate clothing (preferably long pants and closed footwear)

Student Rights and Responsibilities

The Australian Skills and Qualification Authority (ASQA) requires that students be aware of their rights and responsibilities once they have selected their training provider. By enrolling into any of our courses you are deemed to have accepted the terms and conditions outlined in our Student Agreement.

Identification Requirements

Students will be required to show proof of identification at the commencement of the course.
