Price is based on Sydney metro based delivery.

Group booking payment terms are based on agreement between the client and Intrinsic Safety Training.

Initial Course:

22 hours face to face training and assessment.

Refresher Course:

22 hours face to face training and assessment.

Important information regarding course durations:

Course durations are reflective of group sizes between 4 and 15 students. 

If there are less students in a group course duration may be reduced by a maximum of 10%. 

Therefore, if a class size exceeds 15 students it may  be necessary to increase course duration.

What are you issued upon completion?

Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the following statement of attainment:

  • RIIWHS202D Enter and work in confined spaces
  • MSMWHS201 Conduct hazard analysis
  • MSMPER300 Issue work permits
  • MSMWHS217 Gast test atmospheres
Who issues the certificate?

Training and assessment is delivered on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd (RTO 90909), therefore they will issue the statement of attainment for this course.

How often should the training be done?

It is essential workers are safe when carrying out work at height, this requires skill and competency.  The industry recommendation is that workers conduct this course at least every 3 years.

The course includes the following topics:

  • Regulatory requirements for working in confined spaces across Australia

  • Nature of works undertaken in confined space environments

  • Defining and classifying confined spaces

  • Safe working practices for working in confined spaces

  • Using safety equipment and systems for working in confined spaces

  • Assessing hazards and risks when working in confined spaces

  • Implementing control measures to minimise risk when working in confined spaces

  • Developing relevant documentation, permits, risk assessments, policies and procedures

  • Atmospheric monitoring equipment, function, use and interpretation

  • Developing atmospheric monitoring requirements for confined space environments

  • Establishment and utilisation of mechanical ventilation systems in confined spaces

  • Understanding and implementing role of safety stand-by/observer when operating in confined spaces

Physical Requirements

Students will have to carry out various physical practical exercises. Therefore students should be capable of conducting the following activities:

  • Correctly fitting a harness
  • Climbing into and through confined space environments
  • Being lowered and raised on a pulley system in a confined space environment
  • Performing manual tasks in a confined space environment
Assessment Components

Both practical (tasks and scenarios) and written theory assessments will be conducted during face to face training sessions.

Students undertaking this course will have to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

Language, Literacy and Numeracy
  • Sufficient English language, literacy, numeracy and visual interpretation skills to successfully complete this course

Personal Safety
  • Personal safety equipment must be provided by/for the student and worn during training

Venue Information/Catering

Students attending courses at our venues must provide:

  • Lunch (cafes operate within or close to all of our training venues)

  • Appropriate clothing (preferably long pants and closed footwear)

The Australian Skills and Qualification Authority (ASQA) requires that students be aware of their rights and responsibilities once they have selected their training provider. By enrolling into any of our courses you are deemed to have accepted the terms and conditions outlined in our Student Agreement.

Identification Requirements

Students will be required to show proof of identification at the commencement of the course.
