Group booking payment terms are based on agreement between the client and Intrinsic Safety Training.

Initial Course:

36 hours (4 days) face to face training and assessment.

Refresher Course:

36 hours face (4 days) to face training and assessment.

Important information regarding course durations:

Course durations are reflective of group sizes between 4 and 15 students. 

If there are less students in a group course duration may be reduced by a maximum of 10%. 

Therefore, if a class size exceeds 15 students it may  be necessary to increase course duration.

What are you issued upon completion?

Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded a statement of attainment for each of the following:

  • PUASAR032A Undertake Vertical Rescue

  • PUASAR022A Participate in a Rescue Operation

  • HLTAID002 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
Who issues the certificate?

Training and assessment is delivered on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd (RTO 90909), therefore they will issue the statement of attainment for this course.

How often should the training be done?

It is essential workers are safe when carrying out complex rescues of fallen workers, this requires skill and competency.  The industry recommendation is that workers conduct this course at least every 3 years.

The course includes the following topics:

  • Casualty assessment and packaging

  • Breaking strains

  • Emergency management and inter-agency arrangements

  • Equipment characteristics

  • Operation of high lines (Span lines, Tyrolean etc)

  • Operational briefing and debriefing procedures

  • Organisational procedures for cleaning and discarding equipment in terms of environmental management and sustainability

  • Organisational procedures for operating vertical rescue equipment

  • Personal hygiene protocols

  • Principles of suspension trauma

  • Size-up/Reconnaissance techniques

  • Relevant legislation

  • Relevant WHS/OHS principles and practices

  • Safe working loads of equipment and safety factors

  • Signs and symptoms of operational stress

  • Vertical Rescue concepts and practices

Physical Requirements

Students will have to carry out various physical practical exercises. Therefore students should be capable of conducting the following activities:

  • Correctly fitting a harness

  • Climbing fixed ladders

  • Moving and erecting portable ladders

  • Climbing a tower or other structure using twin tail lanyards

  • Conduct a self-rescue while operating at heights

  • Participating in a rescue of a suspended casualty

  • Escort stretchers in raising and lowering operations
  • Establish, maintain and use rescue ascent and descent systems
Assessment Components

Both practical (tasks and scenarios) and written theory assessments will be conducted during face to face training sessions.

Students undertaking this course will have to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

Language, Literacy and Numeracy
  • Sufficient English language, literacy, numeracy and visual interpretation skills to successfully complete this course

Personal Safety
  • Personal safety equipment must be provided by/for the student and worn during training

Venue Information/Catering

Students attending courses at our venues must provide:

  • Lunch (cafes operate within or close to all of our training venues)

  • Appropriate clothing (preferably long pants and closed footwear)

Student Rights and Responsibilities

The Australian Skills and Qualification Authority (ASQA) requires that students be aware of their rights and responsibilities once they have selected their training provider. By enrolling into any of our courses you are deemed to have accepted the terms and conditions outlined in our Student Agreement.

Identification Requirements

Students will be required to show proof of identification at the commencement of the course.
