Price is based on Sydney metro based delivery.

Group booking payment terms are based on agreement between the client and Intrinsic Safety Training.

Initial Course:

2 days (20 hours) face to face training and assessment.

Refresher Course:

2 days (20 hours) face to face training and assessment.

Important information regarding course durations:

Course durations are reflective of group sizes between 4 and 15 students. 

If there are less students in a group course duration may be reduced by a maximum of 10%. 

Therefore, if a class size exceeds 15 students it may  be necessary to increase course duration.

What are you issued upon completion?

Students who successfully complete this nationally recognised training will be awarded the following statements of attainment:

  • RIIWHS204D Work safely at heights
  • PUASAR022A Participate in a rescue operation
  • HLTAID002 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
  • MSMWHS201 Conduct hazard analysis
Who issues the certificate?

Training and assessment is delivered on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd (RTO 90909), therefore they will issue the statement of attainment for this course.

How often should the training be done?

The industry recommendation is that workers conduct this course at least every 2 years.

The course includes the following topics:

  • Legislation and guidance material
  • Risk assessment and hazard control
  • Equipment and systems and how to apply them in a drill rig rescue situation
  • Ladder safety
  • Suspension trauma management
  • Developing and testing rescue plans
  • Use of work positioning and other techniques to provide mobility during rescue
  • Mechanical advantage
  • Selection and establishment of anchor points
  • Emergency communication and rescue planning
  • Attached climbing and work positioning techniques
  • Abseil descent and self-rescue techniques
  • Vertical rescue techniques on an unconscious suspended casualty
  • Mechanical advantage haul and lowering systems
  • Inspection, set-up, and use of pre-rigged rescue systems
  • Casualty management and care
  • Fallen worker retrieval and rescue techniques
Physical Requirements

Students will have to carry out various physical practical exercises. Therefore students should be capable of conducting the following activities:

  • Correctly fitting a harness
  • Climbing fixed ladders
  • Climbing a rig or other structure using twin-tail lanyards
  • Using a pre-rigged system to rescue a suspended casualty
  • Using a Controlled Rate Descent (CRD) device to rescue a suspended casualty
Assessment Components

Both practical (tasks and scenarios) and written theory assessments will be conducted during face to face training sessions.

Students undertaking this course will have to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

Language, Literacy and Numeracy
  • Sufficient English language, literacy, numeracy and visual interpretation skills to successfully complete this course

Personal Safety
  • Personal safety equipment must be provided by/for the student and worn during training

Venue Information/Catering

Students attending courses at our venues must provide:

  • Lunch (cafes operate within or close to all of our training venues)

  • Appropriate clothing (preferably long pants and closed footwear)

The Australian Skills and Qualification Authority (ASQA) requires that students be aware of their rights and responsibilities once they have selected their training provider. By enrolling into any of our courses you are deemed to have accepted the terms and conditions outlined in our Student Agreement.

Identification Requirements

Students will be required to show proof of identification at the commencement of the course.
